Southern California Gas Co. dropped its opposition to an interstate natural gas pipeline from Wyoming to California after the developer, Kern River Gas Transmission Co., agreed to let the utility deliver some of the gas to its own customers. The agreement was applauded by the California Public Utilities Commission, but doesn’t ensure the Kern River pipeline will be built. SoCal Gas still argues it would be cheaper to expand its own pipeline system if the state decides it needs more gas. Coastal Corp. and other private developers have also proposed new pipelines to serve California. All are trying to sign up industrial customers.
