Soccer Roundup : Attaway’s Goal Helps Capistrano Valley Girls Upset Mission Viejo

Cindy Attaway scored on a header late in the second half to give Capistrano Valley High School girls’ soccer team a 1-0 upset victory over Mission Viejo Tuesday in a South Coast League game at Capistrano Valley.
The victory marked the first time Capistrano Valley defeated Mission Viejo since 1984. It also moved Capistrano Valley (15-4-1 overall, 6-1-0 in league play) into sole possession of first place in the South Coast League. Mission Viejo (15-2-1, 4-2-1) is the top-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A. Capistrano Valley is ranked fourth.
Attaway’s goal was assisted by Susan Staab, who recovered a loose ball and chipped it into Attaway’s reach. Goalkeeper Suzie Bone had 9 saves for Capistrano Valley, and Tamar deFries had 8 saves for Mission Viejo.
In another South Coast League game:
Dana Hills 3, Irvine 0--Megan Fosberg, Deonna Collins and Gina Pitale all scored for Dana Hills (14-4-4, 4-2-1), the sixth-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A. Goalkeeper Brina O’Dowd had 1 save and Karla Gunderson had 2 saves for Dana Hills. Julie Schwarz had 12 saves for Irvine (5-8-1, 0-6-1).
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 5, Katella 0--Michelle Rullo scored 3 goals, giving her 18 for the season, to lead Esperanza (20-0-2, 7-0-0) at home. Karen Van Winkle and Jennifer Gulden also scored for the Aztecs, the second-ranked team in the Southern Section 4-A.
El Dorado 3, Cypress 0--Michelle Lopickolo scored 2 goals and Theresa Korte scored 1 to lead El Dorado (9-3-4, 4-2-1) at El Dorado. Monica Costello had 6 saves for El Dorado. Shelly Aguire had 9 saves for Cypress (2-3-2 in league).
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 4, Kennedy 0--Stefanie Stucker scored 2 goals, and Melisa Marshall and Lara Crowley each had one to lead La Quinta (12-2-1, 7-0-1) at home. Goalkeeper Wendy Wilson had 3 saves for La Quinta.
Pacifica 6, Rancho Alamitos 0--Devon Fitzpatrick scored 2 goals to lead Pacifica (7-1-2, 6-0-1) at Rancho Alamitos.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 6, Anaheim 0--Kristina Yoseloff scored 3 goals, Debbie Laporte 2 and Jackie Lyen 1 to lead Valencia (12-6, 5-1) at home.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Woodbridge 2, Laguna Hills 1--Forward Jennifer Hile scored both goals for Woodbridge (8-8-1, 4-1) in the first half while Suzie Kim scored Laguna Hills’ only goal.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 1, Newport Harbor 0--Tracy Schrieber scored 11 minutes into the second half to lead the Sea Kings (12-5-2, 4-1-2) at Newport Harbor.
In the Sunset League:
University 7, Saddleback 0--Julie Simpson scored 2 goals to lead visiting University (8-6-3, 4-1-2).
In the Sunset League:
Edison 3, Fountain Valley 2--Michelle White scored 2 goals, including the winning goal in the 75th minute to lead Edison (6-4-4, 3-2-3) at Edison.
Marina 2, Huntington Beach 1--Melanie Frakes and Suzie Greganic each scored to lead Marina (11-6-3, 5-1-2) at home.
In Angelus League boys’ soccer:
Servite 2, St. Paul 2--Shawn Kane and Lenny Romero each scored for Servite (4-8-4, 2-2-2) at home.
Mater Dei 2, Bishop Montgomery 1--Matt Tanner scored the winning goal midway through the second half to lead Mater Dei (9-8, 5-1).
In Olympic League boys’ soccer:
Santa Margarita 2, Whittier Christian 1--Steve Feeney and Lou Pavlovich scored to lead Santa Margarita at home.
