The editor of Blythe’s twice-weekly newspaper said the state attorney general has told him that refusal by the town’s only movie theater to admit the paper’s part-time movie critic may violate California’s civil rights law. But, said Harold Stanford, editor of the Palo Verde Valley Times, Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp has advised him to seek an amicable settlement. Stanford, who has been sending critic Cathy Monnett more than 60 miles to Yuma to review films, said Van de Kamp has not responded to his request that the state file suit against the theater. Monnett was banned from the theater Dec. 14.
