Local : 2 Killed, 1 Wounded by 3 Assailants Who Set Fire to Mid-City Apartment
Two people were killed today and a woman was critically injured by as many as three assailants who set fire to a Mid-City area apartment in an apparent attempt to cover up the slayings, authorities said. Investigators said they found two bodies in a charred closet in the apartment. The bodies were so severely burned that the cause of death could not be determined immediately.
A woman who survived the fire was in critical condition at UCLA Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her left arm and second- and third-degree burns over 90% of her body, a Fire Department spokesman said. The woman was found outside the apartment house on Orange Grove Avenue. The fire spread to an adjacent apartment house. At least eight people were left homeless, authorities said.
