Local News in Brief : Fullerton : 4 Teen-Agers Held in 95-M.P.H. Car Chase
Four Santa Ana teen-agers were arrested on suspicion of auto theft Monday after leading Fullerton police on a high-speed chase that ended when the stolen car they were riding in crashed into a van, officials said.
The chase started when Fullerton police tried to pull over the car in the 500 block of South Highland Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Jeff Roop said.
The car’s 16-year-old driver ignored a police order to pull over, then sped about 2 miles through residential areas before heading west on the Riverside Freeway. The car reached more than 95 m.p.h. before turning north on the Santa Ana Freeway and exiting on Beach Boulevard, Roop said.
The car turned onto Manchester Boulevard and collided with the van moments later at the intersection of Manchester Boulevard and Stanton Avenue in Buena Park, Roop said.
Both the van and the stolen 1984 Nissan were severely damaged, but the van’s driver and the teen-agers escaped serious injury. One youth suffered a broken arm.
One suspect, a 13-year-old girl, was later released to her parents, and the others were turned over to juvenile authorities, Roop said.
