At Wengen, Switzerland, Marc Girardelli, bidding for a third World Cup overall title, broke an 8-year record on the circuit’s longest downhill course and widened his lead over defending champion Pirmin Zurbriggen.
Girardelli skied the 4,185-meter run in 2 minutes 26.54 seconds.
The Austrian-born skier completed a 7-day sweep of the two most difficult races on the circuit. He won last week on the equally hazardous Hahnenkamm course at Kitzbuehel, Austria, the first downhill victory of his 10-year career.
