Roundup : CSUN Men Sweep in Volleyball

Bob Samuelson recorded 7 kills and Raphael Tulino had 6 as Cal State Northridge rolled to a 15-12, 15-0, 15-4 victory over Chapman in a men’s volleyball match Thursday at Northridge.
The Matadors started slowly, committing 8 hitting errors in the first game.
But in the final 2 games Northridge hit at a .333 pace while limiting Chapman to a minus-.028 kill percentage.
The Matadors travel to UC San Diego on Saturday for their final nonconference match.
WOMENS’ BASKETBALL
Biola 77, Cal Lutheran 49--Mary Beth Nelson led Biola with 27 points and 14 rebounds in a nonconference game at Biola.
Kristen Smith scored 10 points to lead Cal Lutheran (4-9).
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
First Lutheran 52, L.A. Lutheran 47--First Lutheran High overcame a 6-point third-period deficit to win the Heritage League game at L. A. Lutheran.
L. A. Lutheran forward Stephen Willweber, who scored a game-high 29 points, picked up his fourth foul with 3 minutes left in the period and missed 6 minutes of action. When he returned, L. A. Lutheran (4-9, 2-3) was behind and never led again.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Alemany 63, Chaminade 18--Andrea Hoffman scored a game-high 25 points for Alemany (4-1) in the San Fernando Valley League game. Pamela Powers, a sophomore forward, had 7 points and 15 rebounds for Chaminade (3-9, 0-4).
Bell-Jeff 50, Notre Dame 39--Andja Vucurevic scored a game-high 14 points--10 in the first half--as host Bell-Jeff (14-3) improved to 4-0 in San Fernando Valley League play.
Village Christian 44, Montclair Prep 38 (2 OT)--Charis Kubrin scored a game-high 30 points for Montclair Prep (7-6, 2-3) in the Alpha League game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome 5 turnovers in the second overtime.
Village Christian improved to 12-7 overall, 2-3 in league play.
WRESTLING
Birmingham 40, Granada Hills 33--The Braves (2-0) recorded 5 pins, a decision and a forfeit win in a Valley League match at Birmingham. In the 175-pound class, Matt Sankry recorded a pin in 35 seconds, the fastest of the meet.
San Fernando 48, Chatsworth 24--Phil Guerrero (heavyweight) and Guillermo Ramirez (119 pounds) recorded wins in less than 2 minutes for San Fernando (1-1 in league play) in a Valley League match at San Fernando.
El Camino Real 62, Canoga Park 6--El Camino Real recorded wins in 11 of 13 classes in a Valley League match at El Camino Real.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Westlake 1, Simi Valley 1--Westlake’s Jason Ungar scored 18:10 into the second half to tie the Marmonte League match. Andre Markarian scored 13:50 into the first half for Simi Valley (17-2-1, 5-0-1), ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section 4-A Division coaches’ poll.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Chaminade 4, Crossroads 1--Sophomore center-halfback Katie Crespo scored 2 goals in the first half to lead visiting Chaminade to a 4-0 lead en route to a San Fernando Valley League win.
Alemany 3, Notre Dame 0--Rachel Corelli scored 2 goals and Jenny Hart added another for Alemany (10-6-2, 3-0) in a San Fernando Valley League match at Alemany.
