A head-on collision killed one motorist and left another with moderate injuries Thursday afternoon, police said.
Sgt. Tim Darton said the accident occurred at 2:05 when a car traveling west on California 54 near Rio Drive crossed into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle. The first car flipped and rolled down an embankment. Its driver was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Mercy Hospital, where she died just before 6 p.m. Her name was withheld pending notification of her family.
