A Capistrano Beach woman arrived at the South Pole today after skiing 750 miles across the frozen wastelands of Antarctica, her husband said.
Shirley Metz, 39, was accompanied in the overland expedition by nine people, including another woman. The party started their trek in early December.
They were to be the second party to ski to the pole across one of Earth’s coldest and most desolate landscapes, Metz said before leaving Capistrano Beach. Her husband, Dick, said today that he had been notified that the expedition had safely arrived at the polar plateau.
