Local News in Brief : Ozzy Osbourne Plans Donation to Gays
To make amends for anti-homosexual remarks made by his guitarist at a recent Long Beach rock concert, singer Ozzy Osbourne will make a donation to gay causes in Long Beach, a city official said Wednesday.
Osbourne is expected to announce the beneficiaries of his contributions today, but the money is expected to go to AIDS Walk Long Beach, a fund-raising event scheduled for March, as well as local performing arts groups. City Councilman Evan Anderson Braude, who condemned guitarist Zaak Wylde for urging concert-goers to beat up homosexuals, said he was told that the group will donate at least $2,500.
A publicist for the heavy metal band said the group believed something should be done to atone for the gay-bashing comments. “Everyone felt real bad about it, of course. It was a stupid thing to say,†Kevin Kennedy said.
Wylde last week apologized for his remarks.
