Coleman, Pendleton Lead Trojans to Victory Over Yale in Honolulu

HONOLULU — Ronnie Coleman scored 19 points and Anthony Pendleton added 18 Thursday as USC routed Yale, 84-60, in a consolation game of the Rainbow basketball tournament.
Ed Petersen led Yale with 19 points, and Dean Campbell contributed 17.
USC (7-4) held a 32-27 lead at halftime, then allowed the outsized Bulldogs (3-5) just 7 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Trojans took their largest lead, 68-42, with 5:27 left when Pendleton hit his fourth 3-point basket of the half.
“Things went as I expected,” USC Coach George Raveling said. “But it’s tough to play at 12 in the afternoon in the consolation game after coming off a game with a Big Ten team (Purdue), when just your family, a couple friends and some drunks are straggling in.
“I thought we’d win, but it wasn’t pretty.
“We only won seven games all last year, so we took a positive step forward. I expect us to play hard in the next game (today against Tulsa).”
Tulsa won the other consolation game, defeating Houston, 75-71.
