You may recall that a 54-foot-high Superman balloon, undergoing some fine-tuning for the Tournament of Roses Parade, took off on an unscheduled solo flight from El Cajon a few weeks ago before being recaptured on a nearby mountain.
Ironic, then, that there’s concern now whether the Man of Nylon will be able to get off the ground Jan. 2. The problem: Every float must be covered with flower or plant material.
Handler Barbara Jones said: “It’s the weight factor.”
Or embarrassment, perhaps. After all, Superman’s cape will be covered with paprika to enhance its red color. And, in place of hair, the Big Guy’ll be sporting a seaweed wig.
