Pilots are protesting planned relaxation of landing rules at San Francisco International Airport, even though the move is designed to make the facility run more efficiently. In April, an advanced radar system will allow planes to fly side by side on landing approaches to the airport’s closely spaced runways. Such landings will be allowed with visibility as low as 3 miles and under a cloud ceiling as low as 2,000 feet above sea level. Thomas J. Kreamer, a USAir pilot and spokesman for the Airline Pilots Assn., said such landings require passenger jets to fly too close.
