Two Orange County men died when their small plane crashed in a heavy rainstorm shortly after taking off from Corona Municipal Airport, authorities said Sunday.
Daniel R. Thrasher, 51, of Costa Mesa and Joseph Childres, 53, of Garden Grove died in the crash Saturday about 1 p.m. Their plane, a Cessna 210, went down in a remote, heavily wooded area of Norco about a mile from the airport, authorities said.
Thrasher was piloting the aircraft, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies were notified of the crash and located the wreckage and bodies after the plane disappeared from radar screens monitored at Ontario International and Chino airports.
National Transportation Safety Board officials are investigating the accident. The plane was en route to Riverside and may have been on a training flight, an FAA official said.
Childres was the owner of Western Camper Sales on Garden Grove Boulevard in Garden Grove.
