Cal Baptist Beats Master’s Men, 88-74

Guards Carlos Ballesteros and Tony Smith teamed to score 54 points as Cal Baptist defeated The Master’s College, 88-74, in an NAIA District 3 game Tuesday night at Cal Baptist.
Ballesteros and Smith each scored 27 points as Cal Baptist led from the opening tip-off. Ballesteros made 12 of 12 free throws and Cal Baptist was 24 of 31 from the free-throw line.
“Their guys controlled the game,” Master’s Coach Mel Hankinson said.
Cal Baptist (9-2) built a 51-41 halftime lead and extended it in the second half. Master’s (4-7, 3-4 in district play) trimmed the lead to 69-59 with 8 minutes to play, but never threatened from that point.
Phil Hahn led Masters with 14 points. Tom Bruner scored 10.
