HIGH SCHOOLS : Simi Valley JVs Win as Late Entry
- Share via
The Simi Valley High junior varsity became a last-minute entry in the school’s varsity soccer tournament this week when Clark High in Las Vegas withdrew from the event.
The JVs proved equal to the task, scoring a 1-0 first-round victory over Calabasas on Monday.
Clark switched its season from winter to the fall this year and Nevada’s governing board for high school athletics banned the team from competing out of season. The California Interscholastic Federation has a similar rule governing out-of-season events.
Simi Valley Coach Andy Silva, who also serves as the tournament director, said that he learned of Clark’s situation Saturday, two days before the tournament and too late to find a replacement.
