LONDON — The newest member of the Royal Family was christened today in the 16th-Century Chapel Royal. Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, the former Sarah Ferguson, stood proudly as the Archbishop of York christened their 4 1/2-month-old daughter, Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip attended the private ceremony, which included most of the members of both families, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said. Harold Brooks-Baker of Burke’s Peerage said the name Beatrice was chosen to honor the King and Queen of Spain. A previous Beatrice was a great-grandmother of King Juan Carlos and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
