8 Charged in Fatal Mexico City Blast

MEXICO CITY — Eight public safety inspectors have been formally charged in connection with a fireworks-related explosion and blaze that killed 68 people at a crowded market, the Excelsior news service said Monday.
Excelsior reported that chief public safety inspector Manuel Quintanilla Velasquez and seven of his employees have been charged with homicide, causing injuries and property damages and accepting bribes.
The Mexico City district attorney’s office said the men had accepted bribes from vendors of fireworks that were sold without required permits.
