Local News in Brief : Gang Member Gets Sentence for Murder
- Share via
A gang member was sentenced Monday to 27 years to life in state prison for shooting to death a young man after the victim refused to hand over his car keys.
Compton Superior Court Judge Janice C. Croft imposed the sentence on Ronald Davis, 17, who was convicted in August of first-degree murder.
The district attorney’s office said Davis fired a single gunshot into the chest of Johnny Wilkins, 20, at a gas station at the corner of Imperial Highway and Wilmington Avenue on Aug. 20, 1987.
The shooting occurred after the victim refused a demand to hand over his car keys to Davis, who wanted to steal the automobile’s wheels, prosecutors said.
