A Rutgers University basketball player and another student were arrested over the weekend and charged with stealing more than $2,600 worth of electronics equipment from a department store, police in New Brunswick, N.J., said.
Police Sgt. Joseph Patterson said Anthony Duckett, 21, of Washington, D.C., and James Pearson, 20, of Newark, N.J., were stopped by security guards at a department store as they were putting the electronics equipment in their car.
Patterson said both men are charged with possession of stolen property, and each has been released on $1,000 bail.
Duckett did not play Saturday in Rutgers’ 69-63 victory over Princeton, but school officials have made no announcement about his status. Last season, Duckett averaged a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game and scored 10.3 points per game.
