LONDON — Publisher Eddy Shah, who led the way into high-tech newspaper production in Britain, is giving up his new national tabloid, the Post, and has sold his 20-paper provincial chain, news reports said.
The Press Association, the domestic news agency, reported Saturday that Shah, 44, was closing the 5-week-old newspaper.
The Sunday Times said he has decided to leave the newspaper business. “I don’t enjoy newspapers,” it quoted him as saying. “I was never interested in the content of my papers or understood what makes a good newspaper.”
The Post was launched Nov. 10 with three editions and an initial print run of 1.1 million. It was thought the paper needed to sell 370,000 copies a day to break even but last week it was reportedly selling about 100,000 copies a day.
