Fifty-five heavily armed police and five police dogs were called to remove a rowdy audience of 1,800 from a Saturday night rap concert at the California Theater in downtown San Diego, police said Sunday.
The theater was cleared without major problems and the only serious injury was a broken leg suffered by one man in the audience, police said.
Sixteen members of the audience were detained for questioning, police said, but none were charged. One concert-goer was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant, police said.
The concert was canceled shortly after 10 p.m. when the crowd became unruly and fights broke out among some gang members in attendance, police said.
