A man suspected of several bank robberies and auto thefts in a three-county area was arrested Saturday after he was spotted by police at an Anaheim motel.
The arrest capped a weeklong investigation by Buena Park police detectives of a string of bank robberies in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, Buena Park police officials said.
David F. Sherman, 31, with no known address, was spotted at about 3:15 p.m. at the Broadway Motel, 300 N. Manchester Ave., as he was driving out of the parking lot in an auto he allegedly stole from a nearby car dealership, police said.
The detectives followed Sherman north on the Santa Ana Freeway to the Riverside Freeway, where marked police units tried to stop him.
After a short chase, Sherman was arrested in the parking lot of a Shakey’s Pizza at Orangethorpe Avenue and Valley View Street in Buena Park. Police said he was carrying a .357-caliber revolver at the time of his arrest.
Sherman was being held at the Anaheim jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
