Local News in Brief : Sitter Convicted in Infant’s Death
- Share via
A Canyon Country baby-sitter was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter in the shaking death of a baby in her care. Prosecutors had asked the San Fernando Superior Court jury to find Vickie R. Maas, 28, guilty of second-degree murder.
Maas testified that she “gently” shook 6-month-old David Allen Duncan on Jan. 6 because she panicked when the boy would not stop crying. The baby died two days later from swelling in his brain brought on by shaking, physicians said.
Maas could receive up to six years in prison at a sentencing by Judge Howard J. Schwab scheduled Jan. 9.
