IN BRIEF : Jockey Arrested, Faces Charges

JOLIET, Ill. — A Balmoral Park jockey accused of using an electrical device to spur his horse to victory was jailed and charged with corrupt practices on a racetrack.
Felony charges, including unlawful use of an electrical stimulating device, were filed Wednesday by Will County prosecutors against Geary Louviere, who also is temporarily suspended from racing in Illinois and may face a permanent ban.
Chief In Charge, the winner of the sixth race Tuesday, was declared a “nonstarter” by stewards after security personnel at the track caught Louviere with a device that shocks a horse.
Louviere was suspended until a hearing Friday before track stewards, a track spokesman said.
