An unidentified man, who was shot by Garden Grove police after he struck an officer with a golf club, died Wednesday morning, police said.
The man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he had been taken after the incident Monday afternoon.
Police said two officers were sent to Garden Grove Mazda at 13631 Harbor Blvd. about 4 p.m. Monday after reports were received that a man was throwing rocks and swinging a club at passing cars.
The officers approached the man and he swung the club at them, striking one of them on the wrist, police said. When he continued to advance on the officers, they both shot him, police said.
The district attorney’s office is investigating the incident, as it does with all officer-involved shootings. The two officers, who were not identified, have been placed on administrative leave pending results of the investigation.
