Matthew Pavone, a 16-year veteran of federal criminal prosecution in San Diego and San Francisco, was named to take over the western regional drug task force targeting large-scale drug conspiracies. Pavone, 33, was named in San Francisco by U.S. Atty. Joseph Russoniello to replace Stephen Graham. The Northwest Region Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force has a dozen prosecutors handling large drug cases exclusively from Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. Graham was recently elected a Marin County Municipal Court judge. Pavone has been a member of the drug task force since 1984 and was a criminal prosecutor in the San Diego office of the U.S. attorney from 1972 to 1983.
