Local : Dornan Won’t Get Job With Bush

Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove), the flamboyant Orange County conservative who had been seeking a post in the Bush Administration, will be focusing his energies on Congress after all.
President-elect George Bush phoned Dornan and several other House Republicans who had been active in his campaign to tell them he would not be appointing them to high-level posts because he does not want to deplete the party’s strength in Congress, according to a Bush spokeswoman.
“Many of the vice president’s friends in Congress have indicated a willingness to serve in his Administration,” said the spokeswoman. “Their appointment would mean a loss of strong supporters on Capitol Hill.”
Dornan responded by saying he will concentrate on being a “point man” for Bush in Congress, particularly on issues affecting arms control, acquired immune deficiency syndrome and the deficit. “I’m not disappointed by his decision because I understand it and support it,” Dornan said.
