Fullerton : Local News in Brief : Grant Funds to Buy Polygraph Equipment

A grant from the National Science Foundation and university matching funds are enabling Cal State Fullerton to purchase more than $46,000 worth of new polygraph equipment for psychology classes.

University officials said the equipment will allow classroom participants and student researchers to monitor, record and analyze a subject’s body responses to psychological events. Body responses include heart rate, blood pressure and brain-wave changes caused by stress or excitement.

“This equipment will allow students to gain hands-on experience that is so necessary if they are to grasp the relationships between biology and behavior and to understand the techniques by which those relationships are discovered,” said Richard A. McFarland, Cal State Fullerton psychology professor.
