As negotiations begin in Mexico over the annual increase in the minimum wage, a key business leader said workers should not expect to make up ground lost to inflation. Jorge Ocejo Moreno, president of the Mexican Employers’ Federation, said the pay raise should allow workers to maintain their current buying power. Consumer prices in Mexico have risen 48.6% in the first 11 months of the year, and the minimum wage in Mexico City has been about $3.50 a day since March.
