El Capitan 59, Ramona 53--Trailing, 26-8, late in the first half, El Capitan scored the last four points of the half, then rallied for 47 second-half points.
Jeremy McGarity scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as El Capitan outscored Ramona, 27-14, in the final eight minutes. Held scoreless in the first half, Chad Smith scored 15 points for the Vaqueros. Tony Newman led Ramona with 16 points.
“They went from being very ineffective on offense in the first half to shooting very well in the second half,” said Ramona Coach Al Schaffer. “We won the first half big. They won the second half even bigger.”
In another tournament game, Torrey Pines defeated Rancho Buena Vista, 62-41.
