Six homes were saved after a fire ignited 5 miles east of Ramona early Friday. The blaze was brought under control at 5 p.m., state forestry officials said.
The fire, which destroyed 120 acres of brush, started at 4:15 a.m., and its cause was undetermined, spokeswoman Carol Stein said.
Stein said the six structures were saved because homeowners cleared a 30-foot space around them to protect them from fire.
