Analysts Say IBM May Shave Phone Holdings

NEW YORK — After losing several hundred million dollars in the telephone equipment business over the past four years, International Business Machines Corp. may be ready to give up at least a portion of it, industry analysts said Friday.
According to several analysts, IBM is on the verge of announcing the sale of a part of its Rolm phone systems unit, which it bought for $1.5 billion in 1984.
