Rediscovered Treasures at Bowers Museum

With regard to Cathy Curtis’ “Housecleaning Yields Few Treasures at Bowers” (Calendar, Nov. 28), I wish to mention the following observations.

Just as she has on other occasions, Cathy speaks from ignorance and a total lack of understanding or sensitivity of this unique impressionist period of California art. True, the “Rediscovered Treasures: American Paintings From the Bowers Collection” are not the finest in early California Plein Air. However, the Chide Hassam, the William Joseph McCloskey, the William Wendt, the William Keith, the Joseph Gardner Symons, the Edgar Alwin Payne and especially the Guy Rose are fine representations of this unique period of California impressionism.
