A leaking propane tanker truck forced the evacuation of about 1,000 children and 500 other residents from Truckee schools, homes and businesses, authorities reported. The leak was detected as the parked truck was beginning to transfer 2,400 gallons of the highly flammable fuel at Tahoe-Truckee Propane, said Capt. Jack Bayer of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department. As a precaution, officials ordered the evacuation of Truckee’s elementary, middle and high schools, and area businesses and homes, Bayer said. Donner Pass Road was closed from California 89 to about Northwoods Boulevard as another tanker was hooked up for transfer of the fuel. No injuries were reported.
