Bundle in Back Seat Unravels Thief’s Plan

SAN JOSE — A thief who swiped a Cadillac apparently had a change of heart after discovering a 7-day-old baby in the back seat, police said Wednesday.
The infant, Jarell Farmer, was wrapped in a blanket in the back when the thief hopped in Tuesday night and sped away from a San Jose gas station. The car was found about 45 minutes later, with the unharmed infant inside, three blocks from police headquarters.
An anonymous tipster, who police suspect was the thief, phoned police to report the location of the car where he said he heard a baby crying.
Police then reunited the baby with his mother, Erlinda Farmer.
