Michael J. McCarthy Dies at 73; Owned County Car Dealership

Michael J. McCarthy, owner of Mike McCarthy Buick in Westminster and a longtime Orange County resident, died Wednesday at age 73.
A family spokesman said McCarthy had been ill recently and entered Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian about 2 weeks ago with severe arthritis pain. He said the family did not know the specific cause of death.
McCarthy, an avid golfer, had been an auto dealer for 45 years, starting out with a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Chicago. He later opened a dealership in Huntington Park and 25 years ago opened Mike McCarthy Buick in Westminster.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Long Beach. Visitation at the Luyben Family Mortuary in Long Beach will be Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m.
McCarthy is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Newport Beach.
