“Oliver!”--the Academy Award-winning musical from 1968--celebrates its 20th anniversary of release on Dec. 13, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy Foundation honor the production with a screening of the 1968 best picture and a panel discussion featuring several of the actors and artists involved in the film of the Charles Dickens novel. Academy President Richard Kahn, who will serve as host and moderator of “Film Classics Revisited: The Making of Oliver!,” said, “With this anniversary salute, we hope to recapture the spirit of celebration that accompanied ‘Oliver!’ on its opening.” Some of the film’s stars scheduled to appear include Oliver Reed and Shani Wallis, as will several key behind-the-scenes personnel. But director Sir Carol Reed, who directed the film, sent his regrets and will not be attending.

For the record:
