Missing Doctor Found Wounded in Arizona
GLENDALE, Ariz. — A Southern California pediatrician who had been missing nearly a month was found lying on a sidewalk in an industrial area early Tuesday, beaten and shot but still alive, authorities said.
Dr. Robert McCormick, 49, of Redlands, was found by police after a citizen reported a man lying on a sidewalk. McCormick had been shot once in the head and once in the abdomen. He underwent surgery and was in stable condition at a Phoenix hospital.
The physician had no identification on him when he was found, but was able to give police his name.
McCormick had been missing since Nov. 13, when police attempted to notify him of an apparent burglary at his office.
Many questions remain, Redlands Police Sgt. Walter Kadyk said Tuesday. “We are very pleased that he (was) alive. It is unfortunate insofar as the condition he was found in,” Kadyk said. “We won’t have any more information until (we) have a chance to talk to him.”
