Italians Expect Visit by Gorbachev in 1989

ROME — Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev is expected to make a long-delayed visit to Italy next year, Italian Prime Minister Ciriaco De Mita said Tuesday.
Officials have said several times since 1986 that Gorbachev was planning a visit to Italy, but the trip has been delayed, apparently because of political instability in the Soviet Union.
De Mita met with the Soviet leader in Moscow in October.
