Man Dies as Fuel Truck Hits Train, Explodes

CARTERET, N.J. — A fuel tanker truck collided with a Conrail freight engine Tuesday and exploded in a huge fireball, killing the truck driver and destroying two nearby homes, investigators and Conrail officials said.
Enrique Cosme, 53, of Elizabeth, died when the Island Transportation Corp. truck he was driving crashed into the Conrail engine in a largely industrial area. The three members of the Conrail crew were unharmed, and police reported no other injuries.
