Local News in Brief : San Diego
A March 27 trial date was set Tuesday for three people charged in the robbery and beating of the wife of a Lodi city councilman.
William Austin, 20; Dwayne Elliot, 21, and Willie Rankin, 22, are all charged in the Oct. 16 robbery of Marjorie Reid, 62, in the parking lot behind Kelly’s Steak House on Hotel Circle North in Mission Valley.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges, and San Diego Superior Court Judge Wayne Peterson set the trial date.
Elliot and Rankin are in the Navy and free on their own recognizance, but Austin remains in County Jail.
Reid was in town with her husband, Fred Reid, who was attending a League of California Cities convention. She suffered major head injuries and received a broken right hip and knee. About $200 in cash, credit cards, and a pair of diamond earrings were taken in the mugging.
