John J. Curley, 49, president and chief executive of Gannett Co., will assume the additional post of chairman when Allen H. Neuharth retires on Mar. 31. Neuharth will continue as a director and chairman of the Gannett Foundation. He will also be ambassador-at-large and reporter-at-large and will continue his weekly “Plain Talk” column in USA Today and other Gannett newspapers.
