Finnish Ski Jumper Named Top Athlete

HELSINKI, Finland — Matti Nykaenen, a double winner in Olympic ski jumping at the Calgary Winter Games, has been named Finland’s top athlete by the Sports Journalists’ Assn.
Olympic javelin gold medalist Tapio Korjus finished second and Marjo Matikainen, who won the women’s 5-kilometer Olympic cross country ski race, was third.
Nykaenen was placed on top by 350 of the 418 pollsters and received 4,074 points. Korjus collected 3,711 points, including 58 first-place votes, while Matikainen had 3,280 points.
