Iowa Tournament : Brown Edges CS Long Beach

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Cal State Long Beach failed to score in the final 2 minutes 24 seconds Saturday and lost to Brown, 62-61, in the consolation game of the Amana-Hawkeye basketball tournament.
Sixth-ranked Iowa (4-0) defeated Georgia, 102-76, in the championship game as Roy Marble scored 27 points. Georgia (3-2) was led by Alec Kessler with 26.
Brown’s Marcus Thompson scored a game-high 20 points, including the go-ahead basket with 72 seconds left. A 19-foot jumper by the 49ers’ Darrell Faulkner from the right side of the key fell short with 2 seconds to play.
Faulkner had 18 points to lead the 49ers, and Rudy Harvey added 14.
Long Beach (0-3), which led, 28-24, at halftime, held a 40-30 lead with 15:02 left on 2 3-point baskets by Faulkner. But the Bears tied the score, 44-44, on Chris Dowling’s basket with 9:50 left.
The 49ers went ahead, 61-56, with 2:24 remaining, but Thompson scored 4 of the Bears’ final 6 points for the victory.
Rick Lloyd had 11 points for Brown (2-2).
