THE PREPS : Roundup : La Quinta Girls Win, 68-27, Over Santa Margarita

Amy Jalewalia scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds to lead La Quinta High School’s girls’ basketball team to a 68-27 victory over Santa Margarita Friday in a consolation round game of the Irvine High School tournament.
Tanya Krill 16 points and 9 rebounds and Jennifer Jeffries scored 12 for La Quinta (1-1).
In another Irvine tournament game:
Brea-Olinda 70, Orange 27--Amy McDaniel scored 18 points, Tammy Blackburn had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jody Anton 12 for Brea-Olinda (2-0). Orange is 1-1.
In girls’ nonleague basketball:
Ocean View 44, Long Beach Poly 43--Heidi Hasemann made a free throw with 6 seconds left to break a 43-43 tie for visiting Ocean View. Sandy Ola scored 14 and Cossette Smith 9 for Ocean View.
Fullerton 48, La Mirada 43--Lynn Gilbert had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Fullerton (1-1).
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Western 6, Costa Mesa 1--Josh Baugh scored 4 goals and Bobby Baker 2 for host Western in the season opener for both teams at Western.
Servite 1, Troy 0--Richard Arko scored in the 25th minute for visiting Servite in the season opener for both teams.
Laguna Hills 0, El Toro 0--Laguna Hills (1-0-1) goalie Jeff Calver had 12 saves, and El Toro (0-0-1) goalie Kevin Rowe had 10 at Laguna Hills.
Bolsa Grande 3, La Habra 0--Juan Duarte scored 2 goals for Bolsa Grande (1-0-1) at La Habra.
Ocean View 1, Estancia 0--Jed Smith scored on a penalty kick at the 31-minute mark of the second half for host Ocean View (1-0-1).
Kennedy 1, La Mirada 1--At La Mirada, Mark Florek scored on penalty kick with 10 minutes left to give Kennedy (0-0-1) the tie.
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Rosary 3, Brea-Olinda 0--Chris Halfeinz scored 2 goals for Rosary (1-0) at Brea.
Chadwick 2, Orange Lutheran 1--Cindy Eddy scored with 10 minutes left in the match for host Chadwick (1-0). Julie Roberts scored for Orange Lutheran (0-1).
