Mater Dei 61, University 39--Dylan Rigdon scored 16, and David Boyle and Andy Krich added 15 each for Mater Dei.
Trabuco Hills 62, Cypress 60--Randy Kriech sank a 17-foot jump shot at the buzzer to give Trabuco Hills the victory at Newport Harbor High School. Rick Swanwick scored 22 points to lead the Mustangs (2-0), who led, 36-27, at halftime. Kriech scored 15 points. Mike Flowers and Mark Johnson each scored 16 points for Cypress (0-1).
Saddleback 69, La Quinta 41--Craig Marshall scored 21 points to lead the Roadrunners at Costa Mesa High School. Malru Dottin, Tony Agnew and Sean Simon scored 10 each for Saddleback. Scott Campbell scored 22 for La Quinta.
In the consolation round:
Newport Harbor 76, Glenn 31--Ian Long scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds and Scott Gray added 11 for host Newport Harbor. Newport Harbor (1-1) led, 16-6, at the end of the first quarter and, 36-20, at the half.
Costa Mesa 75, Mayfair 65--Tim Nguyen scored 23 points and Jose Casas added 18 to lead the Mustangs on their home floor.
