Joe Mullen and Lanny McDonald scored in the first 2 minutes of the second period, leading the Calgary Flames to a 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers Friday night at Edmonton, Canada.
The Flames, who are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games and 6-0 in their last 6 on the road, broke a 2-2 tie with Mullen’s backhander past Grant Fuhr 53 seconds into the second period. The Flames outscored the Oilers, 4-2, in the middle period while playing short-handed for 10 minutes.
The 4 goals were the most the Flames had given up in 17 games.
Hartford 6, Buffalo 1--Hartford’s Kevin Dineen is beginning to feel right at home in Buffalo’s Memorial Auditorium. Dineen scored 2 goals, one short-handed, and had an assist in the Whalers’ latest win at Buffalo.
Dineen, who also scored 2 goals in the Whalers’ 7-1 win at Buffalo Oct. 26, got his short-handed goal early in the third period Friday night to give Hartford a 4-1 lead.
Winnipeg 6, Vancouver 3--Doug Smail, Ray Neufeld and Dave Ellett each had 2 goals as the Jets defeated the Canucks at Winnipeg, Canada.
Ellett, a defenseman who had 13 goals last season, scored his 10th this season on a second-period power play and added an empty-net goal with 5 seconds left in the game as the Jets climbed within 3 points of the fourth-place Canucks in the Smythe Division.
The Canucks lost their second game in a row after their 6-game unbeaten streak was snapped by Edmonton, 4-2, Wednesday night.
