Sewage Spill Closes Strip on Mission Bay

A blocked sewer main at Mission Boulevard and Island Court caused a sewage spill into Mission Bay on Thursday, prompting county health officials to close a 200-yard section of the shoreline.
Pat Hoy, a spokesman for the county’s Hazardous Materials Management Division, said sewage began flowing into the bay at 5 gallons per minute at 3:15 p.m. Workers from the city’s Department of Water Utilities were investigating the cause of the spill Thursday night.
Hoy said sampling of the bay near the spill site would begin today.
