SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: DIVISION III : Gragnano and Monninger Spark Los Alamitos, 52-22

Todd Gragnano completed 14 of 17 passes for 231 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Los Alamitos High School to a 52-22 victory over Schurr in a second-round Southern Section Division III playoff game Friday at Gahr High.

Los Alamitos (11-0-1), which will play El Modena in the semifinals, scored on 5 of its 6 first-half possessions as it built a 31-0 halftime lead. Gragnano, who completed his first 8 passes for 133 yards, finished the half with 10 completions in 13 attempts for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Gragnano, who didn’t play after he threw a 6-yard scoring pass to Ron Monninger with 3 minutes gone in the third quarter, threw all his touchdown passes to Monninger. Monninger finished with 5 catches for 100 yards.

Schurr (9-3), which got its first touchdown with 1 minute left in the third quarter on Cesar Burgueno’s 27-yard touchdown run, got scoring passes of 13 and 23 yards from Jay Macias to Jose Salomon and David Hernandez, respectively. Macias also ran for a 2-point conversion and threw a 2-point conversion pass to Carlos Plantillas.
